The Southern Utah Rock Club (SURC), a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation, is a member of the Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies. It is also connected to the William Wray Mineral Collection in Milford, 40 miles to the north. The Wray collection has more displayed minerals than any other museum except the museums in Moscow, Russia and Vienna, Austria. It is a world class display, better than the Houston Rock and Gem Museum, with all of their oil and gas donors.
SURC brings people together—from Cedar City, St. George, and surrounding areas—who share a common passion for rocks, minerals and jewelry making.
We provide monthly rock hounding expeditions, operate a club-owned lapidary shop, and offer access to wealth of local knowledge and expertise from our members.
Our Mission
- To educate members and the community about rocks, minerals, and other geological materials.
- To encourage mineral study, collecting, lapidary, and jewelry making as a hobby.
- To conduct meetings, lectures, displays, field trips and to promote appreciation of our natural resources.
All Are Welcome
No membership is required to attend our meetings. All rock enthusiasts and anyone interested in our mission can gather with us on the first Thursday of every month.
Our meetings are in Cedar City in even numbered months and Hurricane in odd numbered months. Exception: meetings held the Thursday before the Rock Shows are in Cedar City at the Show site.
