The Club starting holding monthly contests again in February 2025 to give members a chance to show off their recent cab creations. These contests were held in the past, but a while has past since they stopped.
The current rules are simple:
- you must have created the cab yourself
- entries are submitted at the monthly club member meetings before it starts at 6:00 pm.
Each contestant fills out an entry card with their entry and those in attendance get to vote their favorite based on aesthetics and execution of the cabochon. Entires do not have to be mounted; mounting is not considered what is being judged. The winner is awarded a slab (to make more cabs).
April 2025

It was quite the night for Jacob. He was the guest speaker on variscite and his cab entry using Clay Canyon (Utah) variscite won the hearts of those in attendance. It took him hours to create. Jacob completed his term as president of the SUU Geo Club and his degree in geology and will begin his career in New Mexico working for a copper mine there.
