The Southern Utah Rock Club maintains a full service lapidary shop for its members to use in Cedar City. We have everything you need to turn a rough rock into a finished piece of jewelry.

All first time visitors to the shop will be instructed on how use the machines by one of the friendly shop supervisors regardless if you have never touched a machine before or you’re a seasoned lapidary pro, this is done to ensure proper usage and that our machines are well cared for. There is always a supervisor on hand at the shop to assist you with the machines and to provide guidance with your lapidary projects.
All shop users must be current club members in good standing. The Shop Supervisors may ask for proof of membership at anytime and verification that you have been trained to use any machine before you are permitted to use it.

The Latest Lapidary Shop News
To all SURC members, please be advised that effective Dec 1st, 2026, the hourly rate for use of the shop equipment will now be $5 per machine. As the war on inflation continues, the cost of saw blades, oil, arbor wheels & costs to resurface, cat litter, trash bags & other essentials, increases in rent & liability insurance are all up 30-40%, and this is without factoring in major repairs. We are, however, proud to say that since the shop has been in existence, there has never been an increase until now. Our new goal is to address & expedite repairs with minimal downtime.
Shop Prices
The hourly rate for the use of shop equipment is $5 per machine.
Example: If you wanted to use two automatic slab saws while using a cab machine as they cut then your shop rate would $15 per hour.
Shop fees can be paid in cash or Venmo.
Calendar
Stay up to date as to when the shop will be open by always checking the calendar before going to the shop as well as our Facebook group to check on any last minute schedule changes.

Classes
We offer a range of classes at the lapidary shop that you can sign up for by reaching out to the class instructor. You can find their contact information on the calendar above. Material and class prices will vary.
The classes will be published when the shop schedule comes on a monthly basis.
